December 19, 2016
GREENSBORO, N.C. – Virginia Tech sophomore guard Chanette Hicks has been named the ACC Player of the Week as voted on by the Blue Ribbon Panel and announced Monday by the league office.
Virginia Tech’s Hicks helped the Hokies remain undefeated as Tech earned a 92-87 overtime win at RV/RV Auburn. The sophomore recorded her first career double-double with 18 points and matched the program’s single-game assists record with 13. In the overtime period, Hicks went to work, scoring 11 of the Hokies’ 15 points in the frame, including 4-of-4 from the free throw line. The Tigers were up by one in the overtime with just under two minutes to go before Hicks scored five unanswered points and grabbed a steal for a fast break layup with 1:23 on the clock. Auburn was unable to get anything going on the offensive side as the Hokies clinched the win from the charity line down the stretch.
This is Hicks’ second Player of the Week honor this season. She earned co-Player of the Week on Nov. 28 and was tabbed Rookie of the Week last season.
