No. 25 Hokies remain undefeated, rolling past Bowling Green 98-51

BLACKSBURG – Six Hokies hit double-digits as the 25th-ranked Virginia Tech women’s basketball team improved to 10-0 on the season, rolling past Bowling Green 98-51 on Sunday evening at Cassell Coliseum.
The 98 points marks the most by the program since dropping in 103 against High Point to open the 2007-08 season. Tech also hit a season-high field goal percentage, knocking down 54.0 percent on 34-of-63 while going 13-of-26 from long range.
Samantha Hill led the charge with a career-high 21 points, connecting on 6-12 from the field including a 5-of-8 clip from outside the arc. Chanette Hicks added 17 points while handing out six assists and grabbing five steals. Vanessa Panousis posted 15 points while Kendyl Brooks had 11.
Regan Magarity and Sidney Cook continued adding double-doubles to their resumes as the two have combined for seven over the past five games. Today Magarity had 13 points and 12 rebounds while Cook tallied 12 points and 13 boards.
“Very exciting, very good win for us,” said head coach Kenny Brooks. “I’m continuing to watch the kids grow and morph into this team that I really like. We came out today and were a little sluggish in the beginning, but we regrouped and we became the aggressors more in the second quarter on. This team [Bowling Green] were down by nine at halftime at Louisville and pushed Virginia to their limits so this was a good challenge for us and I thought our kids came through. We got contributions from so many different people.”
Tech got off to a slow start in the opening quarter and trailed BGSU 20-18 after 10 minutes. The Hokies quickly made up for it in the next frame as Tech opened with a 12-0 run before ultimately outscoring the Falcons 29-7 to take a 20-point 47-27 lead into the break.
The rest of the game was all Hokies as Tech continued its run coming out of the intermission to go on top by 25. BGSU got it back down to a 20-point game midway through the quarter, but the Hokies answered with a 24-3 run that stretched into the fourth quarter and never looked back, rolling to the win.
Carly Santoro had nine points and seven rebounds to lead the Falcons (4-6). Sydney Lambert and Ashley Tunstall added eight points each.
The Hokies will take a break for exams before returning to the court next Sunday when they travel to Auburn. Game time is set for 4 p.m. in Alabama.
