BLACKSBURG, Va. - The Virginia Tech women's basketball team is set to host Gardner-Webb on Monday, Dec. 5 at 7 p.m. in Cassell Coliseum.

THE HOKIES (7-0)
Virginia Tech is off to a 7-0 start this season, and picked up a 76-67 over Nebraska in the ACC/Big Ten Challenge the last time out. Regan Magarity had a standout performance, tallying 25 points on 9-of-13 from the field including 4-of-5 from outside the arc. Sidney Cook dropped in 14 points and grabbed 13 rebounds for her second consecutive double-double. Vanessa Panousis posted 17 points.
The Hokies fell behind early lead and were down by as many as 16 in the second quarter before Tech scored six unanswered to close out the half to go into the locker room trailing 39-29. Nebraska pushed the lead back to 13 coming out of the break, but the Hokies responded with an 8-0 run to cut it to five in the third. Tech got it down to one heading into the final frame and a layup from Magarity gave the Hokies their first lead since the opening minutes of the game. The fourth quarter was all Hokies as Tech held a 21-11 advantage in the final 10 minutes.
Chanette Hicks leads the Hokies in the early season, averaging 17.0 points, 4.0 assists and 4.9 steals per game. Cook is posting 13.6 ppg and 8.9 rpg. Magarity is averaging 12.7 ppg and 6.9 rebounds per game while Samantha Hill is dropping in 9.9 ppg.
THE RUNNIN’ BULLDOGS (3-3)
Gardner-Webb defeated USC Upstate 57-53 the last time out. Kiera Currie, Lovely Locklear and Evelyn Adebayo each had 10 points. Currie also led on the boards with nine.
The Runnin’ Bulldogs’ game played out similarly to the Hokies’ as GWU was down by 16 in the second period before closing out the half to go into the break down 10. Gardner-Web took a lead late in the third period and were tied at 51-51 heading into the final 10 minutes. Both teams struggled from the field in the fourth quarter, but GWU pulled ahead for the win.
Tierra Huntsman is leading the Runnin’ Bulldogs with 14.7 points per game. Adebayo is adding 10.0 ppg and 7.3 rpg.
THE SERIES
This marks the third meeting between the Hokies and Runnin’ Bulldogs. Tech is 2-0 in the series, but the last time the two teams met was in 2001. The Hokies defeated GWU 76-39. Former Tech player Chrystal Starling had 15 points. Ieva Kublina tallied 12 points.
