Tech set for road contest versus College of Charleston

CHARLESTON, S.C. - The Virginia Tech women's basketball team will wrap up its road swing on Tuesday, Nov. 22 in a 6:30 p.m. contest at College of Charleston.

THE HOKIES (4-0)
Virginia Tech is off to a 4-0 start this season and picked up its first road win of the season, defeating UCF 67-64 on Saturday. Sidney Cook led the Hokies with 17 points and nine rebounds. Chanette Hicks added 15 points and handed out five assists. Kendyl Brooks rounded out the double-digit scoring with 11 points on 4-of-9 from the field including 3-of-6 from outside.

The teams traded baskets in the first half with UCF leading most of the second quarter. UCF and Tech were tied with 24 seconds to go, but Hicks hit a jumper in the final seconds to give the Hokies a 26-24 lead at the break. Tech stretched its lead early in the third quarter, but the Knights tied it up heading into the final 10 minutes. The teams were tied at 56-56 with 2:46 to go in the game before the Hokies scored four unanswered to reclaim the lead for good. UCF looked to make a push in the final minute, cutting it to a 1-point 65-64 game. A pair of free throws from Cook with six seconds to play helped seal the win for Tech as a UCF 3-pointer fell short as the buzzer sounded.

Hicks leads the Hokies in the early season, averaging 16.8 points, 4.0 assists and 3.5 steals per game. Cook is posting 13.5 ppg and 7.3 rpg. Sami Hill is tallying 11.8 ppg while Regan Magarity is averaging 10.3 ppg and 6.8 rebounds per game. Hicks, Cook and Magarity are all connecting on 50 percent or more from the field.

THE COUGARS (1-2)
College of Charleston is off to a 1-2 start this season and fell to NC State 91-47 the last time out. Breanna Bolden led the Cougars with 17 points, 12 rebounds, three assists and a pair of steals. Deja Ford added 11 points.

The Cougars trailed the Wolfpack 20-11 after the opening quarter, but NC State put together a 42-7 run over the second and third to take a commanding 62-18 lead after 30 minutes of play.

Bolden leads the team, averaging 18.3 points per game. Tanisha Brown is pulling down a team-best 9.7 rpg while adding 11.0 ppg. Darien Huff is chipping in 9.3 ppg.

THE SERIES
The two teams have met just once previously with the Hokies winning that contest 81-47 last season on Nov. 22, 2015 in Blacksburg. Vanessa Panousis led Tech with 15 points in the game while Hicks added 14. Magarity grabbed nine rebounds.
