Hokies take to the road to play UCF

Tech faces Knights at 2 p.m. Saturday

BLACKSBURG - The Virginia Tech women's basketball team will take to the road for the first time this season, traveling to Orlando, Florida for a Saturday afternoon contest against UCF.

THE HOKIES (3-0)
Virginia Tech is off to a 3-0 start this season and rolled past Presbyterian 67-36 on Wednesday. Sidney Cook led the Hokies with 16 points and 12 rebounds. Sami Hill added 13 points and six boards while Chanette Hicks tallied 12 points, three assists and six steals. Vanessa Panousis dropped in three from outside to move into first place on the Virginia Tech all-time career 3-pointers list. She eclipses Carrie Mason who tallied 200 treys during her four years.

The Hokies led by just 11 at the break, but opened the third quarter with a 14-2 run to push the lead to 18. Presbyterian would get no closer than 13 the rest of the way as Tech outscored the Blue Hose 22-7 in the fourth.

Hicks leads the Hokies in the early season, averaging 17.3 points, 3.7 assists and 4.0 steals per game. Regan Magarity is tallying 13.7 ppg and a team-high 7.3 rebounds per game. Hill is adding 12.7 ppg and 6.3 rpg. Cook is posting 12.3 ppg and 6.7 rpg. Hicks is connecting on 51.6 percent from the field while Magarity is knocking down 62.5 percent.

THE KNIGHTS (3-0)
UCF is also off to a 3-0 start this season and defeated Davidson 57-38 the last time out. Zykira Lewis dropped in 26 points and had seven steals in the win over the Wildcats. Fifi Ndour added 14 points and grabbed seven rebounds.

The Knights got out to the lead early and went into the break with a 23-17 advantage over Davison. In the second half, UCF pushed its lead to 37-27 heading into the final frame where the Knights never looked back, outscoring the Wildcats 20-11 in the final 10 minutes.

Lewis leads the team, averaging 16 points per game while shooting 50 percent from the field. Ndour is adding 15.7 ppg and 7.0 rpg. Joslyn Massey leads the team in rebounding with 8.7 per game while recording 9.3 ppg.

THE SERIES
The two teams have met just once previously with UCF winning that contest 41-32 on Dec. 18, 2011 in Orlando. Former Tech player Alyssa Fenyn led the Hokies with 10 points. Aisha Patrick was the top scorer for the Knights with 13 points and 13 rebounds.
