Hokies release 2016-17 non-conference schedule
Tech hosts 10 home games including Tennessee, Nebraska and Georgetown

BLACKSBURG – The Virginia Tech women’s basketball team will host 10 non-conference games in 2016-17, including five teams that saw postseason action last season. Highlighting the schedule are home tilts against Tennessee, Nebraska, Georgetown and local foe Radford.

Tech will open the season on Nov. 11, hosting UNC Asheville, a 2016 NCAA Tournament team. The Bulldogs won the Big South Conference Tournament to earn the league’s automatic bid. Tennessee advanced to the Elite Eight in the NCAA Tournament last year and will come to Cassell Coliseum on Nov. 27. Virginia Tech knocked off the Lady Vols last season in Knoxville, 57-43.

The Hokies will play host to WNIT representatives Georgetown (Nov. 13) and Nebraska (Dec. 1). The contest against the Cornhuskers is part of this year’s ACC/BigTen Challenge. Tech won its challenge game last season, defeating Penn State 64-59.

Virginia Tech will take to the road for three contests in the non-conference, including back-to-back road games at UCF (Nov. 19) and College of Charleston (Nov. 22). The Hokies also will face 2016 NCAA Tournament team Auburn on Dec. 18, before returning home to host Radford (Dec. 21) in the final game before the holiday break.

The full non-conference schedule is as follows with contest times and the full schedule including ACC games to be announced at a later date.
