Hokies host Elon on Thursday in WNIT
Game time is set for 7 p.m. at Cassell Coliseum

BLACKSBURG – The Virginia Tech women’s basketball team is headed to the postseason for the first time since 2007 and will host the CAA’s Elon on Thursday, March 17 at 7 p.m. in the opening round of the 2016 Women’s National Invitation Tournament.

Tech posted a 17-13 mark this season and had wins over NCAA team Tennessee as well as fellow WNIT participants, Virginia and Wake Forest. Elon finished the season with an 18-12 record and is making its second consecutive appearance in the WNIT.

Virginia Tech is making its fourth appearance in the WNIT and it marks the Hokies 13th time making postseason since the program's first trip in 1994. Tech has advanced as far as the semifinals in the WNIT which was during the Hokies 2002 trip to the tournament.

Tickets are on sale at HokieTickets.com. Prices are $10 for the public and $5 for students. All entry is general admission.

The second round of games is scheduled for March 19-22. The Postseason WNIT features 32 first-round games, beginning Wednesday through Friday, March 16-18. The event culminates Saturday, April 2, with the championship game, which will be televised live on CBS Sports Network beginning at 3 p.m. ET. Each round of games will be played at campus sites. The event offers 32 automatic berths, one to each established conference, and 32 at-large berths.
