RALEIGH, N.C. – The Virginia Tech women’s basketball team fell on the road to ACC foe NC State, 73-59 on Thursday evening at Reynolds Coliseum in Raleigh, N.C.

Vanessa Panousis led the Hokies (9-7, 0-3 ACC) with 18 points. Sidney Cook and Rachel Camp added 12 points each while also leading Tech on the boards with nine and eight rebounds, respectively. Taijah Campbell chipped in nine points.

“I thought at times in this game tonight we did some of the best things we’ve done in the last two weeks,” said head coach Dennis Wolff. “But we didn’t do enough consistently to put us in a position to win the game.”

The Hokies came out strong, outscoring the Wolfpack 15-7 in the opening six and a half minutes fueled by a pair of threes from Panousis and one from Camp. Tech held the lead, but NC State kept chipping away to go on top by one (24-23) with 3:47 to go in the half. The Wolfpack closed out the half with an 8-2 run to take a 32-25 lead into the break.

Coming out of the intermission, the Wolfpack got out to a 40-28 advantage. The Hokies answered with six straight, pulling within six off a Campbell layup with 15:28 to go in the half. NC State again surged ahead, going up by 11, but the Hokies kept it close, cutting it down to single-digits several times during the second frame and trailed by eight (59-51) with just over four minutes to go following a Camp layup. That is as close as the Hokies would get as the Wolfpack outscored Tech 14-8 in the final minutes to secure the win.

Dominique Wilson led NC State (10-5, 1-1 ACC) with 24 points while Miah Spencer added 21.

The Hokies led on the boards, grabbing 38 rebounds to State’s 33, but the Wolfpack forced 15 Tech turnovers while just giving it up eight times. Tech was 20-of-54 from the field and went 8-of-22 from outside the arc. The Hokies connected on 11-of-15 from the line. NC State shot 23-of-52 and was 8-of-19 from long range. The Pack was 19-of-25 from the line.

Virginia Tech will be back on the court on Sunday, Jan. 11 when the Hokies host Miami at 2 p.m. in Cassell Coliseum.
