GREENSBORO, N.C. – Virginia Tech’s Rachel Camp has bee named the ACC Freshman of the week as announced Monday afternoon by the conference office and voted upon by the Blue Ribbon Panel.
In a 2-0 week for the Hokies, Camp recorded back-to-back double-doubles to lead Virginia Tech to wins over NC Central and Western Carolina. She started the week with 29 points and 12 rebounds in Hokies’ victory over the Lady Eagles, tying the Virginia Tech single-game freshman scoring record. Four days later, the Forest City, North Carolina, native broke the record, dropping in 33 points against the Catamounts. In addition, Camp grabbed 11 rebounds and handed out six assists, while not committing a turnover, in the win against Western Carolina. Notably, Camp connected on 63.2 percent from the field, including a 58.3 percent clip from outside the arc.
Camp leads all ACC freshman in scoring and ranks fifth overall in the league with 18.1 points per game.
Notre Dame’s Jewell Loyd was named the Player of the Week and earned espnW National Player of the Week honors as well after averaging 27.5 points and 8.5 rebounds.
Vanessa Panousis was the last Hokie to garner Freshman of the Week honors, winning last season.
