THE HOKIES
Virginia Tech fell to Northwestern 70-45 the last time out. Vanessa Panousis led all scorers in the game with 19 points. Dominique Powell grabbed a high nine rebounds while Kelsey Conyers tallied eight points, five rebounds, three steals and two assists.

Northwestern took an 11-point lead just seven minutes into the first frame, but Tech answered with eight straight points of its own as Khadedra Croker converted on an and-1 and Panousis drained one of her five three-pointers. The bucket pulled the Hokies within three at 19-16 with just under 10 minutes to go in the half. Northwestern responded with seven straight points and closed out the half on a 21-6 run. Tech was unable to answer in the second half as the Wildcats went on to win.

Rachel Camp is leading the Hokies on the season, averaging 15.1 points per game and currently ranks 11th in the ACC in scoring. Regan Magarity is one of three players in the ACC averaging a double-double with 14.0 points and 10.6 rebounds per game, but has been sidelined the past three games with an injury. Panousis is adding 12.0 points and handing out 3.5 assists per game.

THE LANCERS
Longwood fell on the road to High Point 81-60 earlier in the week in the Big South’s conference opener. Raven Williams tallied 19 points and four steals for the Lancers while Kyndal Skersick added 18 points. Brenna Robbins led the team on the boards with five rebounds.

Longwood trailed 43-24 at the break as the Panthers extended their lead to 23 coming out of the intermission. The Landers would get no closer than 17 the rest of the way.

Daeisha Brown was leading the Lancers on the season with 16.0 points and 5.0 rebounds per game through the first three before suffering a torn ACL that will keep her out the remainder of the 2014-15 season. Skersick is averaging 10.8 ppg and Williams is adding 8.8 ppg. Khalilah Ali is grabbing a team-high 5.8 rpg.

THE SERIES
Virginia Tech leads the series 8-1 and won the last meeting 73-58 on Dec. 1, 2012. Former Hokies Alyssa Fenyn and Monet Tellier tallied 17 and 13 points, respectively in the win. Top scorer in the game is former Longwood player Crystal Smith who tallied 26 points the last time.

The Lancers only win over the Hokies was on Feb. 7, 1978 with a 68-59 decision in Farmville, Va.

Up Next: The Hokies remain at Cassell Coliseum to host North Carolina Central on Wednesday, Dec. 20 in a 7 p.m. game.
