Hokies set for road game at Providence
Tech to face Friars Sunday at 1 p.m.

BLACKSBURG, Va. - The Virginia Tech women's basketball team is set to travel to Providence to face the Friars in a 1 p.m. game on Sunday, Nov. 23 at Alumni Hall in Providence, Rhode Island.

THE HOKIES
Virginia Tech defeated Norfolk State, 60-49 the last time out. Four Hokies tallied double-digit points in the game and were led by Vanessa Panousis’ 17. Rachel Camp added 15 while Regan Magarity and Kelsey Conyers each tallied 10. Magarity also grabbed 17 rebounds in the game, recording her first career double-double and marking the most rebounds by a freshman in Tech program history. In addition to her scoring, Panousis handed out a game-high six assists and Magarity recorded five blocked shots.

Magarity is leading the Hokies on the season, averaging 14.7 points and 11.3 rebounds per game. Panousis is adding 11.7 points and handing out 4.33 assists per game. Camp is chipping in 10.7 points and Taijah Campbell is notching 103. points and 7.0 rebounds per game.

THE FRIARS
Providence fell to Hartford 57-54 the last time out. Tori Rule dropped in 19 points for the Friars while Alexis Harris notched a double-double with 16 points and 12 rebounds. The Friars trailed 36-24 at the break, but looked to make a run late in the second half, tying it up at 52 with just over two minutes to go. Unable to pull into the lead, Hartford held off Providence for the win.

Rule is averaging 17.7 points per game to lead the Friars early in the season. Harris is tallying 15.0 points and grabbing a team-high 8.0 rebounds per game while Sarah Beal is tossing in 10.3 ppg.

THE SERIES
This marks just the seventh meeting between Virginia Tech and Providence in women’s basketball. Virginia Tech holds the 5-1 record all-time over Providence, but the two teams have not met since 2004 when both were members of the BIG EAST.

Virginia Tech claimed a 77-56 decision in that game as former Hokie great Ieva Kublina tallied 19 points. Carrie Mason and Erin Gibson added 10 points each for Tech.

The Hokies are 24-20 all-time against teams from the BIG EAST. The last time Tech faced a BIG EAST team was Dec. 20, 2009 when the Hokies fell to St. John’s 75-62 on the road.
