GREENSBORO, N.C. – Senior Uju Ugoka was named to the 2014 Second Team All-ACC as announced Tuesday by Commissioner John Swofford and the league office. The All-ACC First Team and All-ACC Second Team were voted on by the league’s Blue Ribbon Panel, which consists of national and local media members, as well as school representatives
Ugoka led the Hokies throughout the season, averaging 18.3 points and 9.5 rebounds per game. She ranks eighth in the league in scoring and third in rebounding. This season Ugoka set a Virginia Tech single-season record with 15 double-doubles on the year and tied the longest streak in program history with six consecutive. She ranks 21st in the NCAA in number of double-doubles on the season.
“It is great to have Uju recognized for her hard work and terrific play,” said Head Coach Dennis Wolff.
It marks the first All-ACC honors for the Hokies since Utahya Drye earned honorable mention honors in 2009. Former Hokie Brittany Cook was the last player to make the second team, earning the recognition in 2008.
The coaches' team will be released following the tournament.
Ugoka and the Hokies will open the 2014 ACC Tournament on Wednesday, March 5 against Clemson. Game time is set for 1 p.m. at the Greensboro Coliseum in Greensboro, N.C.
