Tech returns to the court, hosting Robert Morris
Women's basketball set to host Colonials on Sunday at 2 p.m.

BLACKSBURG, Va. - The Virginia Tech women's basketball team will be back on the court following the holiday break on Sunday, Dec. 29 when the Hokies host Robert Morris. Game time is slated for 2 p.m. at Cassell Coliseum.

The Hokies
The last time out, Virginia Tech defeated Radford, 82-33, on Saturday, Dec. 21 at at the Dedmon Center in Radford, Va.

The Hokies controlled the game from the opening tip and were up 45-14 at halftime. Tech continued to control through the second period, outscoring the Highlanders 37-19 in the second half.

Ugoka led the Hokies with her eighth double-double of the season and sixth in as many games, tallying 22 points and 17 rebounds. It marks just the second time in program history that a Tech player has recorded six consecutive double-doubles. Karen Garbis posted six straight in 1978. Maddison Penn added 15 points, while Vnessa Panousisd dropped in 12 points and handed out five assists. Taijah Campbell grabbed 11 rebounds.

Ugoka leads Tech on the season, averaging 19.6 points and 11.4 rebounds per game. She is one of four players in the ACC currently averaging a double-double, ranking fourth in scoring and leading the league in rebounding. Vanessa Panousis is adding 11.4 points per game while Monet Tellier is tallying 9.5 points, 5.6 rebounds and 4.6 assists per game, the fourth-most apg in the ACC.

The Colonials
Robert Morris defeated Cornell 76-63 in the team’s last outing on Dec. 21 in Moon Township, Pa. Kelly Hartwell had 18 points to lead a trio of Colonials in double-digits. Ashley Ravelli added 12 points while handing out five assists. Lou Mataly tallied 10 points and Jolie Olingende grabbed 12 rebounds.

Virginia Tech and Robert Morris have both played Hofstra this season. The Colonials fell to the Pride, 65-63 to open the season on Nov. 7. Tech picked up the 77-72 ovetime win in Hempstead, N.Y. on Nov. 23.

Artemis Spanou is leading the team with 16.4 points and 13.3 rebounds per game. Anna Stamolamprou is averaging 12.3 points and Ashley Ravelli is adding 10.0 points per game. Janee Brown is handing out 3.7 assists per game.

The Series
The all-time series is tied 1-1 with the Colonials winning the most recent meeting, 66-52 in Blacksburg on Dec. 11, 2010. Former Tech player Alyssa Fenyn led the Hokies with 15 points. Tellier is the top returning scorer from the game with six points while tallying four rebounds, four assists and two steals. Spanou dropped in 18 points and grabbed seven rebounds for the Colonials.

Up Next: The Hokies will take to the road to face Hampton on Wednesday, Jan. 1. Game time is set for 4 p.m. at the Convocation Center in Hampton, Va.
