Drye named All-ACC Honorable Mention
Tech senior recognized for outstanding season

BLACKSBURG, Va. -- Utahya Drye, a senior guard from Durham, NC., has been named as an Honorable Mention selection to the 2010 All-Atlantic Coast Conference women’s basketball team. Since entering the ACC, the women’s basketball team has been represented on the elite team by Kerri Gardin (2005, Honorable Mention; 2006, Third team), Kirby Copeland (2007, Honorable Mention) and Brittany Cook (2008, Second team).

This season, Drye became the 22nd member of the Virginia Tech 1,000 career point club with her 16-point effort in the Hokies, 79-64, upset of No. 10 North Carolina. Drye is only the 11th player in school history to have scored 1,000 points with over 600 rebounds. She became only the second player in the program’s 34-year history to have 1,000 points, 600 rebounds and 200 assists. Kerri Gardin (2002-06) ended her career with 1,061 points, 784 rebounds and 259 assists. Drye currently has 1,158 points (11th Tech career scoring list), 636 rebounds (9th career rebounding) and 221 assists.

The Hokies will open play in the 33rd ACC Championship in Greensboro, N.C. on Thurs., Mar. 4 at 6 p.m. against Boston College. Tech (15-14, 4-10) defeated the Eagles, 69-64, on Feb. 21, in Blacksburg, Va. Tech and Boston College have met two other times in the ACC Tournament with the Hokies winning, 60-54 in overtime, in 2006 and the Eagles taking a, 57-47, victory in the 2007 tournament.

Boston College (15-14, 6-8) lost at Miami, 76-68 in overtime in their regular season finale. A victory would advance Tech to the quarterfinals on Friday at 6 p.m. against No. 2 seed Florida State.
