ASSISTANT TO THE HEAD COACH

Abby Daniels joined the Hokies in June

2016 as the Assistant to the Head Coach.

Daniels is responsible for managing the day

to day operations of the Women’s Basketball

office including clerical work, data entry,

processing reimbursement paperwork and

budget management.

Abby attended Bridgewater College, where

she graduated with a Bachelor of Science

in Business Administration and a Minor in

Art. While at Bridgewater she played on the

inaugural Women’s golf team and was the first

ever alum of the program. Abby also served

as the operations intern for the football team

all four years. Some of her responsibilities consisted of equipment, travel

operations, recruiting operations, and game day activities. Throughout her

four years she also served as the home women’s basketball videographer.

During her senior year in college she was offered a one-year internship

with the Virginia State Golf Association (VSGA) in Midlothian, Va. At the

VSGA she was able to travel to several tournaments and assist the staff

with various administrative and operational responsibilities. She also had

office tasks including clerical work and tournament prep. Abby played a

big part in the VSGA Scholarship process. She assisted with all of the

applications and all logistics leading up to the announcement of recipients.

Also, at the VSGA she had a hand in preparing for the First Annual Virginia

Golf Hall of Fame.

Abby grew up in nearby Roanoke, Virginia. She attended Cave Spring

High in Roanoke, Va. where she played two years of basketball.

GRADUATE ASSISTANT

Sammi Goldsmith is in her first year on

the Virginia Tech women’s basketball staff,

serving as a graduate assistant. Goldsmith is

responsible for overseeing student managers,

taking care of administrative duties, and other

day-to-day tasks.

A 2016 Lynchburg College graduate,

Goldsmith earned her Bachelor of Arts in

Communication Studies. She was a four-year

starter on the Lynchburg College women’s

basketball team, serving as a captain for her

junior and senior year. Goldsmith led her team

to their first ever Conference Regular-Season

Championship, Conference Tournament Championship, and NCAA berth

during her senior campaign. She holds records for most assists in a game

(14), most assists in a single season (187), and all-time assist leader

(504). Goldsmith was also voted the 2016 HERO Sports best guard in

D3 Women’s Basketball.

Prior to college, Goldsmith played four years of high school basketball

for Bishop McGuinness Catholic High School in Kernersville, NC. She

helped the Villains win four state championships and was awarded the

Kay-Yow MVP award for the 2012 State Championship Game.

Goldsmith plans to pursue a career in coaching women’s basketball at

the collegiate level. She is currently working toward earning her Masters

of Arts in Education in Curriculum and Instruction with an emphasis on

Instructional Technology.
