3-POINTER RECORD

Hannah Young

set the new senior year record

for 3-pointers made after dropping in three against

Elon. She broke the old record of 70 set by Jeni

Garber in 1990-91.

ROOKIE ALL-STAR

Chanette Hicks

has had a big freshman season,

setting four new program records. Hicks has set

the new marks for single-season steals, steals in an

ACC season, freshman class steals and freshman

class assists. Hicks set the new single-season

steals record and the assist record versus Elon.

The single-season steals record was set in 1998-

99 by Lisa Witherspoon with 86. The freshman

class assist record was set by Hicks’ teammate

Vanessa Panousis with 121 in 2013-14. She

broke the ACC season record and freshman class

steals records during conference play.

POSTSEASON BOUND

Virginia Tech earned a 2016 WNIT At-Large bid,

marking the Hokies’ fourth trip to the WNIT and the

13th time making postseason since the program’s

first trip in 1994.

MAKE THAT TWO

The Hokies defeated Virginia on Feb. 28 for their

second win over the Cavaliers this season. It marks

the first time in program history that Tech has beaten

UVA twice in the same season and just the third

time the Hokies have won in consecutive meetings.

WINNING WAYS

The win over Wake Forest guranteed the Hokies

their first winning season since 2006-07.

RECORDS ALL AROUND

Taijah Campbell

has moved into fifth place on

the Tech all-time record list for career blocks.

In addition, Campbell is the all-time leading

rebounder vs. ACC opponents in program history,

becoming the first player to have 300+ rebounds

against league foes.

MOVIN’ ON UP

With four 3-pointers at North Carolina,

Vanessa

Panousis

moved into second place on the career

record list, in addition Panousis set the program

record for 3-pointers made in ACC games. She

surpassed Lindsay Biggs on both lists. Biggs

tallied 188 career 3s and 84 in ACC play.

RIVALRY GAME

Virginia Tech picked up its first win since 2007

over rival Virginia, defeating the Cavaliers 66-46

on Sunday, Feb. 7, 2016. It snapped UVA’s 18-

game win streak in the series.

CAREER GAME

Sidney Cook

turned in a 23 point, 14 rebound

performance in the win over Virginia. It marks one

of the best performances in the Hokies’ history

with UVA. Former Tech players Tere Williams and

Uju Ugoka tallied 21 points/10 rebounds in 1998

and 2014, respectively.

JOINING THE CLUB

Vanessa Panousis

became the 24th member of

the Virginia Tech 1,000-point club when she hit

a 3-pointer in the third quarter at Florida State.

Panousis became just the ninth player in Tech

history to reach the milestone as a junior.

FRESHMAN RECORD

Chanette Hicks

scooped up five steals versus

Florida State to set a new freshman class record,

breaking the previous record of 57 set by Sonya

Dalton (1979-80) and Ieva Kublina (2000-01).

3Q SCORING

The Hokies dropped in 28 points in the third

quarter vs. Clemson on Jan. 18, marking the

second most points scored by the Hokies in any

quarter on the year.

STRONG START

The Hokies went 13-1 to open the season,

marking one of the best starts in program history.

In addition, Tech’s 11-game win streak marked the

third longest in history. The longest streak is 18

games (1998-99) with the second at 12 straight

(2003-04, 2005-06).

D-FENCE

The 33 points scored by Boston College on Jan.

3, 2016 ties the fewest points allowed in an ACC

game. Tech also held Clemson to 33 points on

Jan. 2, 2012.

GIMME THE BALL

Virginia Tech scooped up 16 steals in the game

against Boston College, marking the first time

since Jan. 2, 2012 that the Hokies have recorded

15 or more steals in a game.

DEFENSIVE STOP

The Hokies held Furman to 30 pts on Dec. 30,

2015, setting a program record for fewest points

allowed.

DECEMBER TRIUMPH

The Hokies went undefeated in the month of

December, marking the first time since the 2005-

06 season that Tech had an unblemished record

in Dec.

YOUNG FROM OUTSIDE

Hannah Young

had six 3-pointers vs. Coppin

State, connecting on 6-of-9 to tie the Cassell

Coliseum record. In addition, Young scored a

career-high 23 points to lead the Hokies to the win.

THE DIFFERENCE IS...

Tech’s 40-point (73-33) win over Morgan State

is the first time the Hokies have defeated a team

by 40 or more points since an 82-33 decision on

Dec. 21, 2013.

HONORED

Vanessa Panousis

was named the espnW

National Player of the Week as well as the

ACC Player of the Week on Dec. 7 for her

performances in Tech’s wins over Penn State

and Tennessee. Panousis led the Hokies in both

games, tallying 16 points vs. the Lady Lions

and 21 against the Lady Vols. Showing poise

at the line, Panousis combined for 10-of-10 at

the line in the final minutes of the two games to

help secure wins for Tech. She also dropped

in five 3-pointers against Tennessee, including

three in the second half to help spark the

Tech offense.

Virginia Tech was also named the NCAA Team of

the Week following the two wins.

WE GOT VOTES

The Hokies received votes in the Coaches’ Poll

this season (Dec. 9-Jan. 27). Tech also received

votes in the AP Poll Dec. 7-Jan. 3. The last time

Tech received votes in the AP Poll was the 2007

preseason edition.

STREAK SNAPPED

Virginia Tech’s win over Tennessee on Dec. 6

snapped the Lady Vols’ 44-game unbeaten streak

at home against unranked opponents. In addition,

Tennessee’s 43 points marked the fewest UT has

ever scored in a game.

A FEW FIRSTS

The Hokies win over then-No. 8 Tennessee

was the first win over a top-10 team since Tech

knocked off then-No. 8 Maryland in 2012. It was

also the program’s first win over the Lady Vols.

BACK-TO-BACK

With the wins over Penn State and Tennessee,

the Hokies picked up their first back-to-back wins

over non-conference Power 5 opponents since

early in the 2003-04 campaign.

CHALLENGE ACCEPTED

The Hokies knocked off Penn State 64-58 in the

2015 Big Ten/ACC Challenge. Tech’s last win in

the challenge came in 2012 over Wisconsin at

home. It also marks the first time that the Hokies

have won on the road as part of the challenge.

I’LL TAKE THAT

Chanette Hicks

recorded six steals against

Wofford, marking the most steals by a Tech player

in a game since the 2011 season. Hicks also had

five steals earlier in the season vs. Mason, marking

the first time a player had five steals in a game

since 2011.

HISTORY MAKING

Vanessa Panousis

tallied six three-pointers while

Hannah Young

added five against Mason to mark

the first time in program history that two players

have hit five or more treys in the same game.

ON FIRE

The Hokies connected on 14-of-27 from outside

the arc, shooting 51.9 percent against George

Mason to set a new team single-game three-

pointers made record.

tallied six three-

pointers in the win over George Mason, tying a

Cassell Coliseum record. The mark is also the

third highest single-game total in Tech history.

WELCOME TO THE HOKIES

The Hokies add a top 20 recruiting class to the

ranks this year as five-star recruit

have joined the squad. All

three players were nominated for the McDonald’s

All-American game.

WE’RE BACK

The Hokies return 10 players from last season’s

team that went on a memorable run in the ACC

Tournament, defeating NC State in the opening

round before moving on to knock off Pitt in the

second round. Tech advanced to the quarterfinals

of the ACC Tournament for the first time in

program history before falling to eventual Elite

Eight team Florida State. The Hokies became

the first last seeded team in the ACC to ever win

multiple games in the tournament.

AROUND THE WORLD

Samantha Hill

and

Vanessa Panousis

com­

peted over the summer in the World University

Games. Panousis represented Australia at the event

while Hill helped team Canada to the silver medal.

FAMILY TIES

Redshirt freshman

Regan Magarity

has strong

basketball ties as the daughter of Bill and Ammi

Magarity. Her father played basketball at the

University of Georgia and was a member of the

New York Nets in the ABA before moving to

Europe to play professionally for 20 years while

her mother played for the Swedish National Team.

Her brother transferred to Davidson over the

summer and will sit out this season due to NCAA

transfer rules. In addition, Magarity has plenty

of coaches in her family: David (uncle) head

women’s basketball coach at Army, Maureen

(cousin) head women’s basketball coach at New

Hampshire, Mark (uncle) head volleyball coach at

Philadelphia and Dan Earl (brother-in-law) head

men’s basketball coach at VMI.
