BLACKSBURG – After a 3-2 road win over Pitt on Wednesday, the Virginia Tech Volleyball team returns home for Senior Day and the final match of the 2015 Commonwealth Clash against Virginia at 4 p.m. in Cassell Coliseum.

The Hokies have won their last three matches, improving their record to 18-13 overall, 8-10 in the Atlantic Coast Conference. The Cavailiers travel to Blacksburg with an 18-10 mark and 10-8 in conference play.

Ashley Battle’s 13-block outing at Pitt secured her name in the Virginia Tech record books in three categories: second in single match blocks, fourth in single season block assists, and ninth in total single season blocks. The middle has the opportunity to move up in the ranks against Virginia.

Lindsey Owens posted her 16th double-double of 2015, tallying 13 kills and 14 digs. Kenedy McGrath added 18 digs to the night’s total, placing her 17 digs away from breaking into the single season records.

The match is presented by Virginia529, the official college savings plan of Virginia Tech Athletics. It is also a potential half point in the Virginia529 Commonwealth Clash, the point rivalry series between the University of Virginia and Virginia Tech. Currently the score for the Clash is University of Virginia 3.5 and Virginia Tech 0. Learn more about Virginia529 and this new competition at thecommonwealthclash.com.

Scouting the Cavaliers:

Virginia begins its final road trip at Pitt before coming to Virginia Tech. The Cavaliers have won three of their last four matches, with the lone loss against North Carolina last weekend to sit in the seventh position in the ACC. Haley Kole and Natalie Bausback lead the Cavaliers, averaging 3.01 and 2.90 kills per set, respectively.

The Series:

The Hokies trail the Cavaliers’ series by three matches, 31-34. However, under head coach Chris Riley, the Hokies lead 11-8. Earlier this season, despite a first set victory, the Hokies came up short in Charlottesville, 3-1. The two squads split the matches last season with Virginia taking the first 3-2 and Tech claiming the 3-1 win. The teams have faced each other 65 times over the last 36 years, beginning with a 3-0 Tech win in 1979.
