Tech travels to Pitt for final road match
The Hokies return home on Saturday for Senior Day against UVA

BLACKSBURG – After a weekend sweep at home, the Virginia Tech volleyball team faces a quick turnaround as the squad travels to Pittsburgh for a midweek matchup beginning at 6 p.m.

The Hokies travel to Pitt with an improved 17-13 mark, 8-10 in conference play after taking two 3-1 matches at home over Syracuse and Boston College. Pitt shares the fourth position in the ACC with Syracuse, sporting a 12-6 mark with a 22-8 overall record.

On Friday, Lindsey Owens, Amanda McKinzie, and Rhegan Mitchell each registered a double-double, upping the squad’s 2015 total to 38 this season.

Senior Kenedy McGrath collected her 1,000th dig on Sunday against Boston College. She now sits 35 digs away from the 10th position in the single-season digs records. Fellow senior Kennedy Bryan led Sunday’s attack over Boston College with 12 kills in addition to her 11 on Friday.

Middle Ashley Battle posted 10 blocks to tie her single-match career record in Sunday’s standout performance over Boston College. Battle’s 2015 total of 123 blocks sets her 11 behind breaking the 10th spot in the single-season block records.

Scouting the Panthers:

The Panthers serve as host to the Hokies following a split weekend at home, topping Boston College before falling to Syracuse – their first home loss of the season. The Panthers are led by graduate student Kadi Kullerkann who averages 3.80 kills per set with 113 blocks. Mariah Bell and Amanda Orchard add 292 and 256 kills, respectively.

The Series:

The Hokies and the Panthers split the series, 5-5. trail the series with the Panthers by one match, 4-5. Tech has won the last three meetings, including a 3-1 victory in Blacksburg earlier this season. Each team has only been swept once in the series’ 22-year history beginning in 1993.
