BLACKSBURG, Va. - The Virginia Tech volleyball team returns to Cassell Coliseum following a seven-match road swing to open the home ACC slate on Friday, Oct. 11 against Boston College at 7 p.m. and will follow that up, hosting Syracuse on Sunday, Oct. 13 at 1 p.m.

Match Notes

The Hokies
- Tech split results last weekend on the road, falling to Pittsburgh, 3-0, before downing Maryland, 3-2.
- Samantha Gostling tallied nine kills against the Panthers and followed that up with 19 versus Maryland. Lindsey Owens added 15 kills and 19 digs against the Terps while Victoria Hamsher and Kathryn Caine posted 13 and 12 kills, respectively.
- Gostling is leading the Hokies with 3.16 kps while Owens is adding 3.08. Hamsher ranks first in the ACC in attack percentage at .404 and Caine clocks in at third .361. Jordan Fish is notching 11.16 assists per set to rank third in the league and 27th in the NCAA.
- Owens has also been strong for the Hokies on the serve, averaging 0.51 aces per set to top the ACC and rank 12th in the nation.
- On the defensive side, LaTasha Samson-Akpan is tallying 1.27 blocks per set, ranking fourth in the ACC. Megan Beckwith is averaging 3.98 digs per set, good for 10th in the league.
- The Hokies sit atop the ACC and are 18th in the NCAA in team attack percentage at .277.

Scouting the Eagles
- Boston College fell to North Carolina and NC State last weekend with scores of 3-0 in both matches.
- Melissa McTighe led the Eagles with eight kills against the Wolfpack, while Amanda Yerke had the team-high against the Tar Heels with nine.
- Katty Workman leads the Eagles on the season, averaging 3.88 kills per set, ranking fourth in the ACC. McTighe is adding 2.22 kps. Kellie Barnum is putting up 8.87 assists per set.
- On the defensive side, Madisen Lydon is averaging 3.89 digs per set with Workman putting up 3.02. McTighe is notching 0.92 bps.

The Series
- Virginia Tech holds a 12-6 all-time lead in the series and claimed a 3-0 (25-15, 25-21, 25-13) win last season on Nov. 9, 2012 in Blacksburg.
- The Hokies top returner from that contest is Hamsher who posted seven kills against the Eagles. Former Tech player Cara Baarendse led all attackers with nine kills.

Scouting the Orange
- Syracuse also dropped a pair of matches last weekend to North Carolina and NC State. The Orange fell to the Tar Heels 3-0 and the Wolfpack, 3-1.
- Nicolette Serratore had nine kills versus the Heels while Silvi Uattara had 17 versus NC State.
- Uattara leads the Orange with 3.12 kills per set, with Serratore adding 2.80 kps. Erica Handley is tallying 7.93 assists per set.
- Defensively, Lindsay McCabe is posting 1.11 bps. Three Orange players are averaging over two digs per set with Candace Timberlake leading the way with 2.60.

The Series
- The Hokies hold the edge in the all-time series at 3-1, and won the last meeting between the two teams 3-2 (16-30, 25-30, 30-24, 30-26, 17-15) when the teams last met on Nov. 9, 2003. Both teams were members of the Big East Conference before Tech left the following season to join the ACC.
- The Hokies are 2-0 against the Orange all-time in Blacksburg.

Up Next: The Hokies will remain at home to host NC State on Oct. 18 followed by North Carolina on Oct. 19.
