CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. - Hanna Green set the school record in the 800 to pace the Hokies on the first day of the Virginia Challenge hosted by the University of Virginia on Friday evening.
Green’s time of 2:03.27 is a personal best outdoors and surpassed Amanda Smith’s record of 2:04.45 set last season. Green’s time was enough to win her first place and beat the nearest competitor by over two seconds. That time currently ranks third in the nation.
The women’s 4x100-meter relay team consisting of Ama-Selina Tchume, Nora McKiver, Shanel Burr and Courtney Blanden posted a time of 46.14 seconds, earning the squad an eighth-place finish.
The men’s 100-meter race saw Darius Watkins finish in ninth place with a time of 10.68 seconds. Alex Ellison finished right behind him in 10th place with a time of 10.71 seconds.
Prince Owusu posted a fifth-place finish in the men’s 800-meter race with a time of 1:49.93.
Stuart Robertson finished in eighth place in the 3000-meter steeplechase with a time of 8:51.00.
The men’s pole vault saw Chris Uhle win the event with a mark of 17’0.75” (5.20m). Jared Allison finished in fourth with a mark of 16’8.75” (5.10m).
In the Invitational Section of the discus throw, Jordan Roach finished in sixth place with a heave of 167’11” (51.18m).
Tech will be back in action tomorrow at the Virginia Challenge.
