BLACKSBURG, Va. – In the first day of action at the Virginia Tech Invitational, Grant Pollock’s win in the men’s 1,000-meter race highlighted a day where several members of the Virginia Tech men’s and women’s track teams put in quality performances.
In the men’s 1,000-meter race, Pollock and Juan Campos led the way for Tech with first and second place finishes, respectively. Pollock earned his first place finish with a time of 2:25.99, his personal best, while Campos crossed the finish-line at 2:26.52.
For the men’s team, Leoule Degfae, Patrick Joseph and Ryan Kuhns each earned top five finishes for Tech in the men’s one-mile race. Degfae came in second overall with a time of 4:10.36 for a second place finish while Joseph and Kuhns finished in fourth and fifth place, respectively.
On the women’s side, Virginia Tech occupied two of the top-three spots in the one-mile race. Sarah Rapp led the way for the Hokies with a time of 4:51.36, good for a second place finish and a personal best, while teammate Katarina Smiljanec was just behind her with a time of 4:52.96 for a third place finish and a personal best as well.
The Hokies will continue the Virginia Tech Invitational tomorrow with events starting at 11 a.m.
