Campbell in second in heptathlon after day one
Junior sets two new personal records

BLACKSBURG, Va. – Through the first day of competition in the men’s heptathlon at the ACC Indoor Track & Field Championships at Rector Field House, Virginia Tech’s Scott Campbell currently sits in second place with 2,819 points, trailing North Carolina’s Joe Hutchinson by 19 points.

Campbell started out the afternoon tied for second after setting a new personal best in the 60 meters at 7.07, before following that up with another career best in the long jump. The junior recorded the top jump in the event at 23-0.5 (7.02m).

Matt Hoogland is currently in eighth with 2,493 points. The sophomore’s top mark of the day came as he set a new personal record in the shot put with a heave of 37-6.75 (11.45m). Two spots behind him is Jared Allison, who has previously only competed in the pole vault. The freshman has 2,264 points.

The heptathlon will conclude tomorrow with the 60-meter hurdles, pole vault and 1,000 meters. The hurdles will start the day off at 11 a.m. Running events will begin tomorrow at 2 p.m., with the mile qualifying heats, while field events start at 12:30 p.m., with the men’s high jump.
