Tech track & field opens season at Liberty Kickoff
Heptathletes to begin Friday, pole vaulters on Saturday

BLACKSBURG, Va. – A pair of heptathletes and members of the Virginia Tech pole vault squad will open the 2012-13 indoor track & field season at the Liberty Kickoff this weekend at the Tolsma Indoor Track Center in Lynchburg.

Scott Campbell and Matt Hoogland will open up the meet for the Hokies as they will compete in four events beginning tomorrow at 2:15 p.m. They will follow that up with the remaining events on Saturday beginning at 12:15 p.m.

Tech will send nine vaulters to Liberty, including three men and six women. Joining the Hokies at the meet will be former Tech All-Americans Joe Davis and Hunter Hall. Slated to compete for the Hokies are Leigh Allin, Jared Allison, Grace Giampietro, Brad Johnson, Elizabeth Powell, Lyndsey Saunders, Erin Schall, Martina Schultze and Chris Uhle.

The women’s pole vault will start on Saturday at 9:30 a.m., with the men’s pole vault scheduled for 2:30 p.m.

Following the Liberty Kickoff, Tech will compete as a full squad on Jan. 18-19 as it hosts its first home meet of the 2013 indoor campaign, the VT Invitational. All home indoor track meets are held on campus at Rector Field House.
