LYNCHBURG, Va. – Members of the Virginia Tech men’s pole vault crew competed for first time in the 2011-12 indoor track & field season on day two of the Liberty University Kickoff Meet today at the Tolsma Indoor Track Center. Redshirt senior All-American Joe Davis led the way by winning the pole vault with a top clearance of 16 feet, eight and three quarter inches (5.10 meters).
Davis and fellow Hokie reshirt senior Hunter Hall, competing unattached, each posted a best mark of 5.10 meters, but Davis earned the victory based on misses.
Freshman Chris Uhle fared well in his collegiate debut, placing fourth at 16’2.75” (4.95m) and sophomore Corey Shank followed in fifth at 15’3” (4.65m). Shank also competed in the 60-meter dash and ran a time of 7.11 seconds.
In addition, senior Mike Miller was sixth, clearing 14’9” (4.50m) and redshirt freshman Matt Hoogland was ninth (13’9.25”, 4.20m).
Tech will next compete as a full squad on Jan. 13-14, 2012 as it hosts its first home meet of the 2012 indoor campaign, the VT Invitational. All home indoor track meets are held at Rector Field House on campus in Blacksburg.
