IOWA CITY, Ia. - The Virginia Tech men’s swimming & diving team finished the NCAA Championships in 31st Saturday at the Campus Recreation & Wellness Center at the University of Iowa. They were led by Honorable-Mention All-Americans Morgan Latimer and Robert Owen.

Owen grabbed a spot in the evening finals for the second-straight night where he earned his second honorable-mention all-America finish with a 14th-place finish in the 200 back with a time of 1:41.10. The sophomore finished 10th in the 400 IM on Friday.

Latimer finished his stellar career by becoming an Honorable-Mention All-American in the 200 fly after finishing 16th with a time of 1:44.15. The senior’s impressive career also included six ACC top-10 finishes, two ACC silver medals and six ACC relay medals.

Jake Ores closed out his career with a 25th-place finish in the 1650 free, touching the wall after 14:59.23. Owen Burns also finished his career with a top-30 finish, taking 28th in the 100 free with a time of 43.10.

Brandon Fiala added a 37th-place finish to his week at NCAAs, clocking in his 200 breast swim at 1:57.21.

In the platform diving prelims, Thomas Shinholser grabbed his third top-25 finish of the championships when he earned 23rd with a score of 336.8. Kyle Butts placed right behind him at 24th with a score of 334.45. Adding a third top-30 finisher in the event, Logan Stevens scored 321.05 for 27th. Rounding out the platform competitors, Mauro Castro-Silva seized 38th after posting a mark of 276.85.

In the 400 free relay, Burns, Lucas Bureau, C.J. Fiala and Latimer placed 21st after recording a time of 2:55.04.

Tech earned 11 top-30 finishes in the championships and two honorable-mention all-America finishes. They were 31st in the team standings with 17 team points

The NCAA Championships brought a close to a great season and a few great careers from the seniors. This year, Tech placed third at the ACCs after earning five individual medals and one relay medal and setting eight school records. Seniors Burns, Butts, Harrison Cefalo, C.J. Fiala, Collin Higgins, Kevin Hunt, Latimer, Ores complete their phenomenal careers holding five individual school records and a part of three relay school records.
