Game Notes

BLACKSBURG – After taking a game away from Notre Dame this past weekend, Virginia Tech returns to action this week starting with a 4 p.m. Wednesday doubleheader against Charlotte at Tech Softball Park.

The twin bill was moved up to 4 p.m. due to a poor weather forecast projected later Wednesday evening in Blacksburg. Both games will have an audio stream on HokieSports.com with Evan Hughes on the call.

The Hokies (13-20, 2-9 ACC) are coming off of a series where they lost two out of three to Notre Dame. Tech took the first game, 2-1, but dropped two tight ballgames in the Saturday doubleheader. Sophomore Carrie Eberle earned the win on Friday after tossing her 11th complete game of the season and fielding nine groundouts from her position, a new career high that also tied a program record.

Charlotte comes to Blacksburg with a record of 11-21 and having lost three of its last five games. The Hokies are 9-2 all time against the 49ers. The two teams last squared off on Feb. 12, 2011. The series is currently tied at 1-1 in games played at Tech Softball Park.

EBERLE’S BIG WEEKEND VS. NOTRE DAME

  • Sophomore Carrie Eberle tossed two complete games and allowed only three earned runs in 15.0 innings pitched in a 1-1 weekend against Notre Dame.
  • Eberle snapped the Irish’s 12-game winning streak against the Hokies after going the distance and picking up the win in the circle in the first game.
  • Eberle allowed five hits and one earned run on a two out RBI single in the top of the seventh.
  • She also registered nine assists from the circle, a career high and a program record last done by Jasmin Harrell against Marshall in the NCAA Regionals on May 18, 2015.
