BLACKSBURG - Freshman Jordan Dail set a new career high with 13 strikeouts and sophomore Carrie Eberle allowed only three earned runs in game one but it wasn’t enough as Pitt kept the Virginia Tech bats quiet in a doubleheader sweep on Friday night at Tech Softball Park.
The Hokies (11-17, 1-7 ACC) dropped the first game, 4-1, and fell in the nightcap, 4-0. I game one, junior Emma Strouth hit her sixth career triple in game one, tying her ninth all-time program history while junior Sierra Walton registered her third multi-hit game of the season.

Despite allowing two runs to come across on a hit by pitch and walk with the bases loaded, Dail struck out the side in the top of the first and fanned four of the next six batters she faced by way of the K.
In the bottom of the fifth, junior Caitlyn Nolan led off the inning with a double off the center field wall. She would be left stranded though as the next three batters would be retired in order.
After surrendering a two out double that cleared the bases and extended Pitt’s lead to 4-0, Dai’s 13th K ended the seventh, setting a new career high. Dail has posted three 10-plus strikeout games this season.

With the Hokies trailing 2-0 entering the bottom of the fourth, Strouth stepped to the plate one out. She sent the second pitch she saw to the right field gap and dug for third base after the center fielder dove in an attempt to cut the ball off. The ball was fielded by the right fielder who threw the it away attempting to throw Strouth out at third. The error allowed Strouth to score, cutting Tech’s deficit to 2-1.
The Panthers responded in the top of the fifth with an insurance run that made 3-1 and, after allowing a lead off base hit to freshman Casey Barrett in the bottom of the fifth, they would go on to retire the next six Hokies in order. Another run in the top of the seventh that made it 4-1 in favor of the Panthers put the first game out of reach.
Due to poor incoming weather this weekend, the final game between Virginia Tech and Pitt will not be played. The Hokies will next be back in action at 4 p.m. on Tuesday with a doubleheader at Longwood.
