BLACKSBURG - Senior Caroline Schoenewald continued her hot hitting and sophomore Carrie Eberle hit her second home run of the season but Virginia Tech couldn’t top No. 15 Florida State as the Hokies fell to the Seminoles, 8-3, on Saturday afternoon in Tallahassee, Fla.

Schoenewald posted her second straight multi-hit game against arguably two of the top pitchers of the season. Freshman Jordan Dail took the loss for the Hokies (11-14, 1-4 ACC).

With the Hokies trailing 2-0 entering the top of the second, Eberle got Tech on the scoreboard with a solo home run to left center that cut its deficit to one, 2-1. But Florida State quickly countered in the top of bottom of the third with two home runs, a solo shot and two run bomb, that extended their lead to 5-1.

Florida State entered the top of the seventh with an 8-1 lead but the Hokies wouldn’t go down without a fight. With senior Jessie Mehr on first with one out, junior Sierra Walton singled through the left side, giving the Hokies runners on first and second. Sophomore Hannah Jones then stepped to the plate as a pinch hitter and she delivered with a double to left center that cleared the bases, making it an 8-3 game.

The Hokies will wrap up its three game series with the Seminoles tomorrow at 11 a.m.
