BLACKSBURG – Behind a stellar day from its four seniors, the Virginia Tech softball team rolled to an 11-3, five-inning win over the University of Virginia Sunday at Tech Softball Park as the Hokies completed the three-game sweep of the Cavaliers.

The Hokies fell behind 1-0 after UVa scored a run in the first inning, but they rallied for eight runs in the second to blow the game open. Amanda Ake drove in Katey Smith with a double and then Laura Wolff singled to plate Ake. Kylie McGoldrick drew a bases-loaded walk to make it 3-0. Dani Anderson then cleared the sacks with a triple to the gap and then Smith hammered a two-run home run to left field to make it 8-1.

Kat Banks lifted a solo home run to left field in the third inning, her second of the season, to make it 9-1. Anderson cranked a two-run shot in the fourth inning to make it 11-1. The Cavs added a pair of runs in the fifth, but it wasn’t enough as the game was ended early.

Maggie Tyler (W, 13-5) allowed three runs (two earned) on six hits with five strikeouts to pick up the win.

At the plate, the Hokies had 11 hits, led by two apiece from Anderson (5 RBIs) and Smith (2 RBIs). Gaskill, McGoldrick, Ake, Wolff, Banks, Bailey Liddle and Jessica McNamara each had one.

All four seniors – Anderson, Ake, Banks and Wolff – each had at least one hit and an RBI on Senior Day as all four were recognized after the game.

With the win, the Hokies improved to 27-16, 16-6 in the ACC while UVa fell to 6-35, 1-19 in the ACC. It was the 11th-straight ACC win for the Hokies, extending their longest streak ever. The overall record for consecutive conference wins is 14, set in 1999 when Tech played in the Atlantic 10.

Tech will step out of conference on Wednesday to face Liberty (6-37) in a doubleheader starting at 4 p.m.
