RADFORD, Va. (hokiesports.com) – Led by the Liddle sisters at the plate and a gem in the circle from freshman Maggie Tyler, the Virginia Tech softball team rebounded from a tough week with an 8-1 win over Radford Tuesday night at Dedmon Center Field to improve to 28-15 on the season.

Tech jumped out to a quick lead in the first inning after loading the bases when Bailey Liddle drove in two runs with a single to right field. In the third inning, Courtney Liddle led off with a double and scored the easy way when Kylie McGoldrick blasted a two-run home run to center to make it 4-0.

In the sixth inning, Tech busted out the big sticks as Courtney Liddle drove in Kat Banks with a double and then trotted home on McGoldrick’s second home run of the game and her eighth of the season. Jessica McNamara then crushed a solo home run – the first of her collegiate career – to give Tech an 8-0 lead.

Radford got a run in the sixth inning to keep the game alive, but nothing more as Tyler (W, 3-1) finished off the complete-game effort. The freshman allowed a run on four hits with six strikeouts with no walks. Despite the defense committing five errors behind her, she buckled down to escape all but one of the gaffes.

At the plate, Tech picked up 12 hits, led by Courtney Liddle and Bailey Liddle, who both had three hits. McGoldrick had two hits and four RBIs while Banks also had two hits. McNamara and Logan Spaw also each picked a hit. Erin Guida recorded her first stolen base in a pinch running situation.

Radford dropped to 16-29 on the season with the loss.

The two teams will wrap up the season series on Wednesday at 3 p.m. at Tech Softball Park. The time is a change from the original time of 7 p.m. due to the threat of rain in the area. Admission is free.
