BLACKSBURG – The Virginia Tech softball team dropped a pair of games to 21^st-ranked Florida State Saturday afternoon at Tech Softball Park, falling 7-3 and 3-1 in front of a season-high crowd of 1,009. The loss in the first game snapped Tech's 10-game winning streak.

In the first game, FSU jumped all over Tech starter Jasmin Harrell (L, 17-8) in the first inning, scoring four runs in the first two innings as the first four batters all got hits. In the fourth inning, the Hokies got their first hit of the game and plated two runs, one on an RBI double from Kelsey Mericka and one on an RBI single from Dani Anderson. FSU’s Briana Hamilton hit her second home run of the game in the fifth inning and the Seminoles tacked on two runs in the seventh inning to make it 7-2. A solo home run from Kristen Froehlich in the bottom of the seventh accounted for Tech’s final run.

The Hokies had six hits at the plate, coming from Courtney Liddle, Mericka, Anderson, Froehlich, Marra Hvozdovic and Kat Banks. Harrell lasted just over an inning, allowing four runs (three earned) on five hits with a walk. Isabella Corrao went 5.0 innings, allowing three runs on four hits with a strikeout and five walks. Lauren Darden got the final three outs, walking one and giving up two hits.

In the second game, freshman Lauren Gaskill gave the Hokies a quick lead in the first inning with a solo home run, but it would be Tech’s only run despite several late chances.

The Seminoles got the leadoff runner on via walk in both the third and fifth inning and both times, she came around to score. FSU tacked on one more run in the fifth to ice the game.

The Hokies got a few rallies going late, but had a runner thrown out at home on a hit and couldn’t get a clutch RBI hit late in falling to the Seminoles (35-8, 10-2 ACC).

Tech had just four hits, two coming from Gaskill. Courtney Liddle and Hvozdovic had the other two hits for the Hokies. Bailey Liddle (L, 8-4) went 5.0 innings, allowing three runs on five hits with four walks and three strikeouts. Harrell pitched the final 2.0 innings, giving up two hits while picking up a strikeout.

Tech (28-14, 7-4 ACC) will be back in action on Wednesday in a doubleheader at Longwood starting at 4 p.m. in Farmville.
