BLACKSBURG - The Virginia Tech softball team will wear special teal jerseys in support of Ovarian Cancer Research this Friday, April 22 when the squad takes on NC State in a doubleheader beginning at 5 p.m.

Prior to the game, former Virginia Tech women’s soccer player Kelsey Billups (Richmond, Va.) will throw out the ceremonial first pitch. Billups, who completed her eligibility this past fall with the Hokies, is currently battling ovarian cancer. She played in 72 matches for Tech over her four-year career as a defender, scoring seven goals.

“We’re excited to have the chance to show our support of ovarian cancer awareness, especially since this disease has struck close to home,” Tech head softball coach Scot Thomas said. “Seeing a young female athlete, who a lot of our players know, go through this has been a real eye-opener for the girls and I’m hoping by us doing this Friday night, it’ll help raise awareness of the cause.”

The Hokies and Wolfpack will play the doubleheader of the ACC series on Friday night at 5 o’clock and will then play the single game on Saturday starting at noon.
