Hokie women finish second at Indiana State Pre-National Invitational
Men finish 19th in meet

TERRE HAUTE, Ind. – Juniors Courtney Dobbs and Sarah Rapp topped their personal bests and led the way for the women’s cross country team with sixth and 14th place finishes overall to push the Hokies to a second place team finish at the 2013 Indiana State Pre-National Invational on Saturday morning, while the men finished 19th led by a quality run by junior Thomas Curtin.

Dobbs led the way for the women with a time of 20:52.22, her personal best in the 6K distance, good enough for a sixth place finish. Junior Sarah Rapp finished with a 6K personal best of 21:28.11 for a 14th place finish while junior Madalyn Nuckols and freshman Abigail Motley were the next to cross the finish line for Tech 19th and 23rd place finishes respectively. Freshman Shannon Morton finished in 48th place while junior Paige Kvartunas rounded out the Tech scoring with a 58th place finish.

For the men, Thomas Curtin finished first for the Hokies with a time of 24:01.01 for a 31st place finish overall. Senior Leoule Degfae was the next finisher for Tech with a time of 24:32.14 and a 90th place finish. Junior Jared Berman and freshmen Vince Ciattei and Patrick Joseph finished next for the Hokies with 136th, 163rd and 202nd place finishes respectively. Senior Grant Pollock finished in 272nd place while junior Kevin Dowd rounded out the Tech scoring with a 335th place finish.

The Tech women finished second out of 35 teams while the men placed 19th out of 52 teams.

Three Tech men also raced as individuals in the 8K Open Race consisting of 103 runners. Sophomore Stuart Robinson finished second with a time of 24:48.31 while sophomores Ryan Kuhns and George Carter finished 11th and 14th respectively.

The Hokies’ next race is the ACC Championships on Nov. 1 in Kernersville, N.C.
