BLACKSBURG, Va. - The men’s and women’s cross country teams were both back in action this evening in the Virginia Tech Alumni Invitational which pitted former Hokies against current Hokies at the Virginia Tech Cross Country Course in Blacksburg. An alumni race was also held before the competitive men’s and women’s races.
In the 4k alumni race, former Hokie Nick McLaughlin finished with the best time of 13:41.20 on the men’s side. For the women, the best alumni finish was put up by Erika Weidman who had a time of 16:27.10.
Current women’s team members Sarah Rapp, Paige Kvartunas, Courtney Dobbs, and Madalyn Nuckols finished in 3rd, 4th, 5th, and 6th places respectively. Katherine Sheridan wasn’t far behind either with an 8th place finish. As a whole, the women were able to win the meet over ETSU, and King College.
The men’s race saw two Hokie alumni finish in the top two spots with Ryan Hagen finishing first and Jason Cusack not far behind him in 2nd. Ryan Kuhns had the best finish for the current Hokies with a time of 25:37.20 for a 5th place finish overall. Stuart Robertson finished in 8th with a time of 25:37.40. The Hokies came up just short in the overall team race, falling to ETSU by a single point.
The Hokies next meet is away in Earlysville, VA at the Virginia / Panorama Invitational on Sept. 28.
