Tech falls in first of two-game midweek series with Campbell
Camels win Tuesday's game, 7-1. Wednesday's game now at 3 p.m.

BLACKSBURG – The visiting Campbell Camels took an early lead on the Virginia Tech baseball team then used a four-run seventh frame to put the game away on their way to a 7-1 nonconference win Tuesday evening at English Field.
The lone Hokies run was plated on a Tom Stoffel RBI double in the eighth.
The Camels Nick Thayer picked up the win and improved to 4-0 on the season. The Hokies’ Andrew McDonald suffered the loss and is now 1-1.
How the runs were scored
- Campbell (7-5) got on the board in the first on a Brian Taylor RBI single. The Camels added two more in the fifth to make it a 3-0 game.
- The Camels put the game out of reach in the seventh with four runs, the key hit was a two-RBI triple by Anthony Lopez.
- Tech (8-5) used a Tom Stoffel RBI double that scored Ryan Tufts as its lone run of the game.
Inside the Box
- Sciretta extended his reached base streak to all 13 games this season with a single in the first.
- Ponzurick extended his reached base streak to 12 straight games with a walk in the fourth.
- Stoffel notched his sixth double of the season.
- McDonald tied a season high with four strikeouts.
- Cole Kragel tossed a season high 1.2 innings scoreless with one strikeout.
- Culver Hughes threw a season high 2.2 innings with three strikeouts.
- Freiday, Jr. threw out two runners attempting to steal, and has thrown out four this season.
