Tech announces dates for Fall World Series
Two more event dates - alumni weekend and Halloween game - have also been set

BLACKSBURG – With the fall baseball season concluding at the end of the month, Virginia Tech coach Pat Mason is pleased to announce several events that will be taking place the final weeks of October.

First, the Hokies baseball team will host a Fall World Series at English Field – a series that will see the team split into two teams for a five-game set. The dates of the series are Tuesday through Friday, October 22-25 with 5:30 p.m. start times, while the final game will be Sunday, October 27 with a 10 a.m. first pitch.

Rather than split into the traditional school colors for the game, the Hokies have decided to bring attention to two worthy causes and will name their squads – Team Autism Awareness and Team Anti-Bullying. The teams will be wearing special shirts in honor of each cause, while literature will be available to inform those fans in attendance.

“We just wanted to raise awareness for some other causes … there are certainly other issues that we can also shed some light on,” senior pitcher Brad Markey said. “I personally have friends who have brothers or sisters who are autistic, so that’s why I chose that.

“We also thought that anti-bullying is something that kind of goes with that, because when kids are younger, they really don’t know why people are acting a certain way or what they have. So, it’s just easier for them to pick on them, to bully them. So, we just thought these were two great causes to raise awareness for.”

Also during the last weekend of October, Tech baseball will also be hosting an alumni weekend that’s being held in conjunction with the team’s world series and the football game against Duke on Saturday, October 26.

There will be a cook-out on the concourse of English Field on Friday evening during the baseball game, while on Saturday, alumni can come to an open door pregame tailgate at the team’s new location – right across the street from Lane Stadium. For more information on the events and to confirm attendance, please contact Gabe Ortiz (540-231-9976, gabe0730@vt.edu) in the baseball office.

Lastly, for the second year in a row, the Hokies will hold their ALS Awareness Halloween baseball game that will feature the team members dressing up in costumes for an intrasquad scrimmage. Fans are encouraged to dress up as well as their will be the opportunity to get the traditional goodies associated with the holiday. The game is slated for Monday, October 28 with a 5:30 p.m. start.

As always, admission to any of the baseball games is free.
