Hokies ranked in preseason standings

BLACKSBURG – Sophomore Natalie Novotna enters the 2017 fall season ranked 56th in singles while junior teammates Caroline Daxhelet and Elena Cerezo-Codina are 53rd in doubles as announced Tuesday by the ITA.

Novotna paces the Hokie roster with a No. 56 singles ranking after finishing last season ranked 99th after compiling an 18-5 singles record, including a 9-5 tally at the two. She earned ITA Atlantic Region Player to Watch Honors last season and was named to the All-ACC Third Team.

Daxhelet and Cerezo-Codina posted a 4-3 tally early last season, competing at the one for the Hokies. Daxhelet finished spring 2017 ranked 85th with then-senior teammate Francesca Fusinato after the duo notched a 5-7 tally in the one with wins over the nation’s No. 26 and No. 35 tandems.

The Hokies open their 2017 fall schedule this weekend at the Mid-Atlantic Bedford Cup.
