BLACKSBURG, Va. – The 33rd-ranked Virginia Tech women’s tennis team bested Louisville 6-1 on Friday in a ACC clash at the Bass-Rudd Tennis Center to earn its fifth conference win of the season and 12th win overall.

The Hokies (12-5, 5-3 ACC) got off to a hot start in doubles play and never looked back. Caroline Daxhelet and Raluca Mita took care of the Cardinals’ Elle Stokes and Jessie Lynn Paul on court 2 by a count of 6-2 to start Tech off before Francesca Fusinato and Kelly Williford beat Ariana Rodriguez and Sena Suswam in the 1 spot 6-3 to give the Hokies the doubles point. Elena Cerezo-Codina and Sansitha Nandakumar added the exclamation mark for Tech, taking a 6-2 decision over Abbie Pahz and Olivia Boesing on court 3 to keep the Hokies perfect in doubles competition on the afternoon.

Mita gave Tech its second point with a quick 6-3, 6-0 victory over Ola Mally in the 5 spot, followed by Cerezo-Codina putting the Hokies up 3-0 with a 6-3, 6-3 triumph over Rodriguez on court 2. Caroline Daxhelet sealed the deal on court 3, defeating Sena Suswam 7-5, 6-2 to put Tech up 4-0 and clinch the match.

No. 51 Fusinato won her match in the 1 spot over Paul, winning in two sets by a score of 7-5, 6-4 for Tech’s fifth point. Williford was narrowly edged out by Pahz in the 3 spot, losing a hard fought 7-5, 3-6, 1-0 (11-9) decision to give the Cardinals their only point of the day. Nandakumar wrapped the match up with a 3-6, 6-2, 6-3 win over Boesing on court 6, making the final score read 6-1 in favor of the Hokies.

Tech will head east to Raleigh, N.C. for a Sunday match with No. 43 N.C. State, which will be broadcast live on ESPN3 beginning at 11 a.m.
