No. 33 Tech stays on the road for pair of weekend ACC matches
Hokies visit Louisville, N.C. State

BLACKSBURG, Va. – The 33rd-ranked Virginia Tech women’s tennis team will travel to Louisville for a Friday match with the Cardinals before heading to Raleigh for a date with N.C. State on Sunday.

The Hokies (11-5, 4-3 ACC) split their matches last weekend, losing on the road to No. 12 Miami on Friday before beating No. 60 Florida State on Sunday in Tallahassee. Francesca Fusinato jumped seven spots in the ITA rankings from No. 58 to No. 51 this week after beating Florida State’s 72nd-ranked Daneika Borthwick, 6-4, 6-4. Tech will look to gain ground in the competitive ACC as the season begins to wind down.

Louisville (7-10, 0-7) is still searching for its first conference win after falling to both Boston College and Duke last weekend in two 6-1 decisions. The Cardinals are 6-5 on the season on their home court and just played “the best they’ve played all season” on Sunday at Duke, according to Coach Mark Beckham.

Tech’s Sunday match with the Wolfpack (9-5, 2-3) will be broadcast live on ESPN3 with a scheduled start time of 11 a.m. State lost both matches last weekend to highly-ranked opponents in No. 17 Pepperdine on the road and No. 10 Virginia in Raleigh. The Pack are led by No. 60 Maria Frantova out of the 1 spot, who’s coming off a narrow three-set loss against No. 4 Danielle Collins of Virginia on Sunday.
