TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – The 32nd-ranked Virginia Tech women’s tennis team picked up another victory over a ranked conference opponent on Sunday, defeating No. 60 Florida State 4-3 at the Scott Speicher Tennis Center in Tallahassee. Tech now sits at 11-5 overall and 4-3 in the ACC on the season while Florida State drops to 8-8 and remains winless in the conference.

Francesca Fusinato and Kelly Williford didn’t waste anytime getting Tech started as they quickly blanked the Seminoles’ Daneika Borthwick and Yukako Noi 6-0 on court 1 to open up doubles play. Caroline Daxhelet and Raluca Mita couldn’t get past Gabriella Castaneda and Julia Mikulski on court 2, leaving it up to Elena Cerezo-Codina and Sansitha Nandakumar to clinch the doubles point on court 3. The duo did just that, taking care Lana Rush and Daniella Schippers 6-2 to push the Hokies out to an early 1-0 lead.

Mita defeated Rush on court 5 by a count of 6-2, 6-3 to kick off singles play and make it 2-0 in favor of Tech. Cerezo-Codina followed shortly after with a two-set victory of her own on court 2 over FSU’s Noi, 6-4, 6-2. With the score at 3-0, Castaneda put the Seminoles on the board, edging out Williford 7-6 (3), 6-2 out of the 4 spot to keep Tech one victory away from clinching the match. No. 58 Fusinato sealed the deal for the Hokies on court 1, defeating No. 72 Borthwick 6-4, 6-4 to secure the road win. Katherine Butler and No. 117 Daxhelet both were outlasted in three-set battles on courts 3 and 6, officially making the final score 4-3.

The Hokies will stay on the road next weekend, visiting Louisville for a date with the Cardinals on Friday before heading east to Raleigh to take on N.C. State on Sunday.
