No. 32 Tech heads south to face No. 12 Miami, No. 60 FSU
Hokies play Hurricanes on ESPN3

BLACKSBURG – The 32nd-ranked Virginia Tech women’s tennis team is on the road this weekend to face No. 12 Miami on Friday, March 18 before making the trip to Florida State for a Sunday match against the 60th-ranked Seminoles.

Friday’s match is scheduled for 11 a.m. in Coral Gables, Florida and will be aired on ESPN3. On Sunday, the Hokies will face the Seminoles at noon in Tallahassee, Fla.

The Hokies (10-4, 3-2 ACC) enter the weekend coming off a big 5-2 win over then-ranked No. 6 Duke. It marked a milestone win for the Hokies as one of the biggest in program history.

Leading Virginia Tech into the weekend is 58th-ranked Francesca Fusinato who has tallied an 8-4 record this season, including an 8-3 mark in the No. 1. Fusinato also boasts a win over the nation’s then-top ranked player. Caroline Daxhelet enters the weekend ranked 117th and has tallied 12-1 record in duals. Elena Cerezo-Codina is 10-1 while Kelly Williford is 9-4. Raluca Mita has a 9-2 mark.

Miami (8-4, 3-2 ACC) is also coming off a big win, having defeated second-ranked Ohio State, 4-2 on Wednesday. A pair of players ranked in the top-10 nationally lead the Hurricanes. Stephanie Wagner is tabbed sixth in the nation and holds a 9-2 mark on the season including 7-1 at the one. Sinead Lohan is seventh in the ITA and has tallied a 9-1 record in duals. Wendy Zhang rounds out the ranked players for Miami at 103 with a 7-4 record on the spring.

Wagner and Zhang are also ranked in doubles at 10th and have a 7-5 record at the No. 1.

Florida State (8-6, 0-4 ACC) picked up a 4-1 win over Wofford the last timeout, but will face Georgia Tech on Friday before hosting the Hokies on Sunday.

Daneika Borthwick is ranked 72nd in the ITA and has tallied a 6-5 record in duals this season. Gabriella Castaneda is 9-4 on the spring while Julia Mikulski, Yukako Noi and Ariana Rahmanparast are all 6-5 this year.

Tech will remain on the road after this weekend, traveling to Louisville and NC State.
