BLACKSBURG, Va. – The 39th-ranked Virginia Tech women’s tennis team fell to No. 44 Wake Forest in Winston-Salem on Saturday by a score of 5-2. The loss drops the Hokies to 9-4 on the season and 2-2 in the ACC, while Wake Forest moves to 11-2 overall and 3-1 in the conference.

Tech surrendered the doubles point to the Demon Deacons to start the day despite a couple of closely contested matches. Francesca Fusinato and Kelly Williford were edged out by Wake’s Kimmy Guerin and Anna Ulyashchenko by a count of 7-5 on court 1, while Caroline Daxhelet and Raluca Mita dropped another close one 6-4 on court 2 to clinch the doubles point for Wake.

Daxhelet got the Hokies on the board with a gutsy 6-7 (5-7), 6-4, 1-0 (10-8) victory over Ulyashchenko on court 3 while Mita pulled out a close one of her own in the 5 spot, taking down Samantha Asch 4-6, 6-4, 7-6 (7-4) to give Tech its second and final point of the afternoon.

The Hokies won’t have much time to dwell on the loss as they hit the court again on Sunday, this time back home at the Burrows-Burleson Tennis Center against No. 6 Duke at 11 a.m.
