BLACKSBURG, Va. - The 41^st-ranked Virginia Tech women’s tennis team beat Pittsburgh 7-0 on Saturday in Blacksburg to notch its first ACC victory of the season. The Hokies improve to 8-3 and 1-1 in the ACC while the Panthers fall to 5-2 and 1-2 in the conference on the year.

Elena Cerezo-Codina and Sansitha Nandakumar claimed the first match of the afternoon with a 6-2 doubles victory on court 3 over Pitt’s Callie Frey and Natsumi Okamoto. Francesca Fusinato and Kelly Williford followed suit on court 1, also winning 6-2 over Amber Washington and Lolade Ogungbesan to give the Hokies the early 1-0 advantage over the Panthers.

Caroline Daxhelet struck first for the Hokies in singles play with a 6-3, 6-1 victory over Frey on court 3. Nandakumar followed shortly after with a win of her own on court 6, knocking off Pitt’s Clara Lucas by a count of 6-2, 6-3. No. 49 Fusinato clinched the match for Tech on court 1, beating Audrey Ann Blakely 6-3, 6-3 to officially give the Hokies their sixth win in a row and first ACC victory of the season.

Play continued in Blacksburg as Cerezo-Codina took down Ogungbesan 6-4, 6-2 on court 2 to push the score to 5-0 in favor of Tech. Raluca Mita kept the shutout in tact on court 5, defeating Pitt’s Washington 6-3, 7-5 to pull the Hokies within one point of recording their fifth 7-0 victory of the season.

Tech will look to continue its success Sunday afternoon as Boston College comes to Blacksburg for a noon match at the Burrows-Burleson Tennis Center. As always, live stats will be available at here.
