BLACKSBURG, Va. – The 41st-ranked Virginia Tech women’s tennis team will continue conference play with matches against Pittsburgh and No. 71 Boston College at the Burrows-Burleson Tennis Center in Blacksburg this weekend.
Tech (7-3, 0-1 ACC) jumped four spots in the ITA rankings from No. 45 to No. 41 this week after picking up wins over No. 74 Marshall and No. 29 Rice in Huntington, W. Va. last weekend. The Hokies have won five matches in a row dating back to January and will look to pick up their first ACC wins of the season this weekend. With two wins this weekend, Tech will have recorded a perfect record in the month of February.
Pittsburgh will be first up for Tech on Saturday for a noon match to kick off the weekend. The Panthers (5-1, 1-1 ACC) have shown much improvement from last season so far, most notably racking up a win against in-state foe No. 61 Penn State earlier this month. Pitt is led by Lolade Ogungbesan, who is only one win away from the 100th of her college career.
No. 71 Boston College (5-4, 0-2 ACC) will be in town Sunday for another noon start. The Eagles most recently took down Cornell last Sunday, but fell in the rankings from No. 48 to No. 71 due to a three-match slide before that. Boston College claims the 70th-ranked player in the nation in Asiya Dair and will also be looking to pick up its first ACC win of the season.
