BLACKSBURG, Va. – The 47th-ranked Virginia Tech women’s tennis team will host the Mountaineers of West Virginia at 10 a.m. Sunday at the Burrows-Burleson Tennis Center in Blacksburg.
The Hokies (4-3, 0-1 ACC) are coming off a pair of 7-0 wins over Richmond and UMBC in last week’s doubleheader, giving them their third and fourth wins on the young season. Tech jumped one spot from 48th to 47th in the latest ITA poll after the wins and now have four players ranked nationally in singles. Francesca Fusinato made a huge jump to No. 41 in the singles poll after being previously unranked because of her huge win over then-No. 1 Julia Eidukonyte of Clemson in addition to an undefeated doubleheader last Sunday. Ilinca Stoica comes in at No. 94 in the poll, Elena Cerezo-Codina is at 108, and Caroline Daxhelet claims the 113 spot for Tech.
West Virginia is 3-2 on the season, most recently dropping a 4-3 decision to Liberty on Friday in Lynchburg. The Mountaineers are led by Hailey Barrett out of the 1 spot and have wins over Toledo, Cleveland State and Akron this spring.
