No. 48 Tech opens up conference play with No. 20 Clemson
Hokies, Tigers set to meet in Blacksburg on Thursday

BLACKSBURG, Va. – The 48th ranked Virginia Tech women’s tennis team will return to the Burrows-Burleson Tennis Center on Thursday for a 3 p.m. tilt with 20th ranked Clemson. Thursday will mark the first ACC conference match for either team on the new season.

The Hokies (2-2, 0-0 ACC) will look to bounce back after dropping a pair of matches against then-No. 58 Illinois and No. 60 Oregon at the ITA Kickoff Weekend in Lubbock, Texas this past weekend. Elena Cerezo-Codina lead Tech by winning both of her singles matches in the two contests. No. 104 linca Stoica and No. 108 Caroline Daxhelet also added wins against the Illini in the tough 4-3 loss.

No. 20 Clemson had both matches cancelled last weekend on the account of weather and have not played since hosting the Duckworth Winter Classic on January 16th and 17th. The Tigers boast the current No. 1 ranked player in the nation in Joana Eidukonyte, who has won a singles title in the ITF and also currently ranks as No. 851 in the world. Clemson’s lineup is solid all the way through, also featuring No. 59 Fernanda Navarro and No. 72 Theresa Piontek in the 2 and 3 spots.

Live stats for the match will be available here.
