ORLANDO – The Virginia Tech women’s tennis team wraped up play at the USTA Collegiate Clay Court Invitational in Orlando on Sunday with two second place finishes to take back to Blacksburg.
After a three-set semifinal victory over Florida’s Brianna Morgan on Saturday in the Gold flight, Ilinca Stoica couldn’t top Martina Frantova of NC State in the championship match, falling 7-6, 6-3 and finishing second out of 64 players in the flight.
Sunday’s action included the semifinal and championship rounds in doubles play. IN the Garnet semifinals, Katherine Butler and Sansitha Nandakumar took down the duo of Brendel and Nsimba from Youngstown State, 8-5 to earn a championship match berth. Tristen Dewar and Ally Miller-Krasilnikov of Clemson took the championship match 8-5, giving the Hokies another second place finish on the weekend.
Tech will wrap up the Fall slate at the ITA National Indoor Tournament in Flushing Meadows, NY next week beginning Thursday, November 12th through Sunday the 15th.
