ORLANDO – The Virginia Tech women’s tennis team wrapped up their third day of competition at the USTA Clay Court Invitational on Saturday in Orlando. Ilinca Stoica became the last Hokie standing, earning a spot in Sunday’s championship match in the Gold flight.
Stoica took Florida’s Brianna Morgan to three sets in the semifinals, winning 3-6, 6-3, 6-0 to advance to tomorrows championship match against NC State’s Martina Frantova in the Gold flight. The match will begin at 9:00 AM and will be broadcast live on ESPN3.
In the Garnet draw, Caroline Daxhelet was narrowly edged out by Ingrid Vojcinakova of Old Dominion in the semifinals by a score of 5-7, 7-6 (6), 7-6 (5). In the White draw, Kelly Williford and Sansitha Nandakumar couldn’t advance past the semifinals after losses to NC State’s Tayla Stenta and Tristen Dewar of Clemson, respectively.
The USTA Collegiate Clay Court Invitational will conclude on Sunday, including Stoica's 9:00 AM championship match.
