Hokies wrap up Terrier Invite at Wofford
All participating Tech players record wins on the weekend

BLACKSBURG, Va. – Several members of the Virginia Tech women’s tennis team participated in the Terrier Invite hosted by Wofford College over the weekend in Spartanburg, S.C. Mariana Silva, Sloan Barton, Frances Peyton and freshman Emily Pence all picked up at least one win in either singles or doubles during the two-day tournament.

Silva beat USC-Upstate’s Ruby Kubac 6-3, 6-3 in the first match of the Gray singles flight before falling to Navy’s Anastasia Kondrasov in the second round, 6-1, 6-1. The loss landed her in the consolation match, where se defeated Natalie Kitchen of George Washington on Saturday to secure third place in the flight.

Emily Pence edged out a 6-4, 5-7, 10-6 win in her first match in the Prevail flight over Wofford’s Marelli Sanchez before pulling off a win in another three-set battle with Radford’s Karlie Pope by a score of 4-6, 7-6 (7), 10-7 to earn her a spot in the first place match. Pence finished second in the flight after she lost in the final round to Audrey Channell of Navy.

In doubles action, Peyton and Pence took down Navy’s Channell and Kondrasov 6-4 to start things off for the Hokies. Barton and Silva kept it going with a pair of doubles wins over WCU (7-6 (5)) and Navy’s Balsavage and Abbanat, 6-1 in the Carolina doubles flight.

The Hokies will head down south to Orlando for the USTA Collegiate Claycourts November 5th-8th before wrapping up the Fall season at the ITA National Indoor Tournament the following week.
