PACIFIC PALISADES, CA. – Two members of the Virginia Tech women’s tennis team will hit the court on Tuesday for qualifying singles matches at the Riviera/ITA All-American Championships in Pacific Palisades, California. Ilinca Stoica and Francesca Fusinato will join the field of representatives from all over the country to compete in the national spotlight.
Stoica will be returning to the tournament for the second season in a row and will take on Emily Olivier from New Mexico in her first match on Tuesday. Should she win, she’ll await the winner of the match between California’s Karla Popovic and fellow ACC member Lexi Borr of Boston College.
Fusinato, coming off an NCAA Tournament appearance in the spring, will clash with Texas Tech’s Lynn Kiro on Tuesday. If victorious, she’ll go on to face the winner between USC’s Madison Westby and Caroline Brinson of Georgia.
The qualifying round will run Tuesday to Wednesday and players will have to win a total of three matches to qualify for the main draw, which will run Thursday to Sunday.
Elena Cerezo-Codina participated in the pre-qualifying singles draw this weekend and won her first match over Katie Vialle of North Carolina before falling in her next match to Zoe Katz of USC.
